Oficialmente soy LaMonix©, mi nombre ya está registrado, así es que ahora unficaré todo a LaMonix, y seguiré el blog la-monix.blogspot , aunque ahora estará un poco inactivo hasta que mi bebé Travis se haga un poco mayorcito, pero de momento me apetece disfrutar de mi bebé que es precioso, que crezca gordito, y disfrutar de esta etapa, de esta maternidad que es un regalo de la vida.

Este es mi tercer encargo especial para un aniversario/regalo, y esta vez ha sido mi sobrina Clara que me ha encargado una ilustración para regalarle a su amiga para el día de su cumpleaños. Y con características muy claras como tenía que ir vestida. Me ha divertido mucho hacer esta ilustración y creo que ha quedado tan dulce como la original. Felicidades!!!!!!!

El domingo pasado tuvo lugar el mercadillo Lost & Found, y por fin en Barcelona un mercadillo que vale la pena y auténtico, cuando vivía en California una de mis aficiones y hobby era ir casi cada fin de semana al "swap meet" de San Diego, me encanta rebuscar y encontrar algo único, así decoré mi casa con objetos y muebles vintage, ropa especial, libros, etc...y cuando me marché de San Diego también vendí a precio regalo todas mis cosas en el mercadillo......y desde que llegué aquí no había encontrado algo similar.
Disfruté mucho pasando por los diferentes puestos de Lost and Found, y encontré mi tesoro una manta marroquí "Handira" de lana, algodón y lino fabricada por las mujeres bereberes de Marruecos. Mi manta es roja con secuencias plateadas y cubre toda la cama, ahora la tengo en uno de los sofás, y queda que te mueres de romántico. Y hasta la mujer que me lo vendió me enseñó el ticket de la tintorería, que seguro que le costó más la tintorería que los 30€ que me pidió por la manta, y está nueva!!!!. Y son estas compras las que hacen que me sienta que mi casa es especial.
Luego tenemos el mercadillo de toda la vida los Encantes, pero no me acaba de gustar mucho pues son gente profesional del mercadillo, y para mi el encanto de un mercadillo, es gente que no se dedica a ello, simplemente reciclar lo que ya no necesitas o usas, darle una nueva vida, encontrar objetos o ropa original, y a buenos precios. Aún y así me gusta ir de vez en cuando. Tiene su encanto!!!!
También hay El Pulgas Mix, pero después de 3 ediciones te cansas pues siempre son los mismos diseñadores, la gran mayoría de los puestos es ropa nueva de jóvenes creadores, a precios un poco caros para mi gusto. Y tendencias muy parecidas o similares, que para mi lo hacían poco atractivo.
La única pega de Lost and Found es que es sólo se hace dos veces al año, ya que el ayuntamiento no les permite hacerlo más a menudo. A ver si el Ayuntamiento de Barcelona se pone las pilas, aunque cuando el Ayuntamiento regulariza algo se vuelve demasiado esterilizado, como las casetas de lo que antes llamabamos "los hippies", pero que ahora son casetas de artesanos, todas iguales, como los que hay en Las Ramblas, Paseo del Angel, Argentería Borne, pero que para mi no dejan de ser comerciantes o un híbrido de tiendas.
Queremos mercadillos de verdad!!!!!!

He estado 2 semanas trabajando a tope en un nuevo proyecto que me hace especial ilusión, llevar a mis ilustraciones a otras ciudades, NY, Londres, París, Roma, si yo no puedo viajar que al menos lo hagan mis ilustraciones,....el proyecto de hacer postales cuadradas está todabía en fase de inicio, cruzo los dedos que siga viento en popa esta gran oportunidad.

Esta semana he descubierto esta banda de rock alternativo de Los Angeles, California compuesto sólo por mujeres THE LIKE. Me ha fascinado su estilismo de sus ropas tipo lady muy femeninas pero a la vez con mucha actitud y estoicismo, las poses en sus fotos tipo maniquís, los fondos escogidos para las fotos,...... mui monix!!!!!

Ya por fin he diseñado mi segunda hornada de tarjetas, podría haber impreso otra vez el otro diseño pero si lo hubiera hecho como mínimo me hubiera cogido urticaria,.....y me he decidido esta vez por cinco diseños ya que Fotoprix tiene una oferta tan buena 100 tarjetas impreso a 2 caras a 4 euros, mejor imposible!!!! así da gusto promover tu negocio.

Finalmente realicé tarjetas y flyers para la galería, y ahora me toca diseñar las mias que hace siglos que voy sin tarjetas y esto no puede ser. Este año me puesto como meta ser más productiva y ejecutar los proyectos pendientes, y no dejarlos colgaaaaaaaaaaaados por los siglos de los siglos, y de momento he cogido el impulso ahora es mantenerlo y hacer de ello un hábito. Es importante como freelance/ autonoma ser mi propia jefa y también mi propia empleada curranta, si si a lo que la jefa diga aunque no me apetezca.

El fotógrafo Mateusz Staniewski hizo nuestro retrato de familia. Fue una sesión inolvidable, participar en unas fotos con un gran artista de la fotografía. Una sesión diferente y original, un juego muy divertido para los tres, un recuerdo inolvidable, creo que mi hijo alucinó, pues descubrió la magia de la fotografía, ya que Mateusz sólo cuenta con su cámara, no hay nada de photoshop, ni filtros. Me siento afortunada por todo el trabajo que genero a través de mis ilustraciones, un sueño hecho realidad,....ver como mis cuadritos viajan a Australia, Francia, Estados Unidos, Alemania, ni en mis sueños más locos,...... o una pareja de recién casados de Florida compraron uno de mis cuadros como recuerdo de su luna de miel, y él no paraba de halagar mi trabajo (me hace especial ilusión cuando veo que mis ilustraciones conectan con los hombres), o una clienta asidua de Logroño, Sara, me deshago de la ilusión...... todavía me cuesta encontrar un equilibrio entre producción y la creatividad, pues cuanto mejor me va, más tiempo paso en gestiones, producción, imprentas, administración, etc,.....y idílicamente me encantaría estar sólo creando y dibujando,.....pero es un objetivo aprender a ordenar mi tiempo, equitativamente, y organizar el trabajo me cuesta, y es difícil canalizar todas esas diferentes tareas y hacerlas más manejable, (desarrollo de nuevos productos, ilustrar, producción, distribución, gestión de la galería, envíos, emails, seguimiento clientes, la web, el blog, reuniones, teléfono, limpieza de mi oficina, brrrrr!!!!, pero feliz!!!) ....... Me compré y leí un libro en su día sobre organización, y creo que es hora de echarle un buen repaso.

Perhaps you need to leave your home city to learn to truly appreciate it. This certainly seems to be the motto of Barcelona-based artist Mónica Riu, who explains that Monix, her series of doll-like, “girl about town” illustrations, grew out of rediscovering her love for the city.

Returning to Barcelona after an eight-year sojourn in the US, Riu set about defining the distinctive style we see today, immersing herself in the city’s urban art movement and setting up gallery Base Elements with her husband and fellow artist Robert Burt. Drawing upon Riu’s training in graphic design at Elisava, the Monix line, which includes canvases, posters and magnets, depicts chic, doe-eyed caricatures in an urban setting, an ode to the artist’s self-proclaimed passion for her native city.

Riu explains, “I think it’s very important to love the place where you live.” With her work currently showing in Munich, the artist has ambitions to take the Monix brand to other European cities such as London and Paris.

Si tratta di poster che hanno come soggetto figurini di ragazze disegnati a mano completi in ogni eccentrico dettaglio che si muovono tra i paesaggi fotografati dell’amata Barcellona. Se non altro, sicuramente un ottimo souvenir. Monix afferma di aver imparato “en tener una visión de que Sí! puedes vivir de lo que te gusta”.

Por primera vez expongo fuera de Barcelona, poco a poco mis sueños se van haciendo realidad y y a veces tengo la sensación que me tendrían que pellizcar para creermelo. No hemos parado en La Mercé, hemos acabado exhaustos de pasarnoslo tan bien en 3 días sin parar de espectáculos, actividades, proyecciones visuales, correfocs, petardos, sol, ciel, mar....una fiesta entrañable para todos!!!!! Ya llevaba un tiempo que me sentía estancada con mi técnica, que podía mejorarla, y quería tomar algunas clases de pintura, pues nunca he tocado el pincel por alguna razón siempre me ha dado mucho respeto y miedo, porque negarlo...........con mis ilustraciones soy muy visceral y no quería hacer las típicas clases de pintura, pintando bodegones, y pasando por todo eso, no puedo!!!!!!! es superior a mi,...........y quería encontrar un profesor como tuve hace 20 años, pero no me acordaba de nada, más lo enrollado, divertido,y la conexión tan buena que tuve con él,....al día siguiente su nombre y apellido apareció en mi mente como arte de magia!!!!!!!!!!....Lluis Bargalló. Y allí he estado con mis clases,.........Lluis sigue igual que siempre de genuino y auténtico!!!!!! con un talento extraordinario!!,......y este es el resultado de mi primer oleo!!!

Una clienta de Inglarerra me pidió uno de mis cuadros customizados, para un regalo de cumpleaños de su amiga,....originalmente la ilustración era con el pelo rosa y corto, y el pedido fue de pelo rubio y largo y sus variantes. Fue divertido hacer las transformaciones, y al final se quedaron con el moño....siempre me alegra que escojan mis cuadros para un regalo especial y en este caso muy único.

Linda es holandesa y vive en Barcelona, y ella ya hace tiempo iba en bicicleta por las calles de Barcelona cuando todos creían que era una locura ir en bici en una ciudad con tantos coches. Se trajo de Holanda sus dos gatos y su bicicleta que frena pedaleando hacia atrás.
Linda is dutch and lives in Barcelona, and she used to ride her bicycle in the streets when everybody thought was crazy ride the bycicle in a city full of cars. When she moved from Holland she brought her 2 cats and her red bycicle that breaks pedaling backwards.

El otro día vino a vernos nuestro amigo Pavel Sfera en una visita relámpago a Barcelona pues está de gira con su banda Auchtung Babies a tribute to U2,.....hacía 6 años que no lo veía desde que nos fuimos de California, lleva ya más de 20 años dedicándose profesionalmente a ser doble de Bono de U2 www.bonodouble.com, recordamos viejos tiempos, las fiestas de Garage Gallery, disfruté muchísimo!!!!!, además no te pasa todos los días que te vas a pasear y presumir de estar con Bono en Barcelona, con lo quapetón y sexy que es!!!, ......y sobretodo nos trajo mucha energía positiva, pues es una bellísima persona, muy espiritual, dedicado a obras benéficas y ayudar a los demás. Nancy la del bañador leopardo trabaja en el Corte Inglés, en el departamento de coméstica y debe ser deformación profesional que nunca sale de casa sin maquillarse aunque sea para ir a la playa, su amigo y vecino El Mago es fotógrafo y le llaman el Mago por que hace milagros, como salir con chicas tan guapas como Tanja que quiere ser modelo, no habla español, pero no importa. Hoy llevan protección solar 50, litros de agua, y una pelota para los momentos aburridos.

Her friend and neighbour The Magician is a fashion photographer, he got the nickname because he makes miracles, like going out with hot chicks like Tanja who wants to be a model, doesn't speak english, but that doesn't matter. Today they put sun screen level 50 on, bottles of water, and a beach ball for play time.

El otro día vi la pélicula de Happy go Lucky de Mike Leigh. Y me chifló!!!, pues la protagonista Poppy, es una profesora de escuela con una personalidad muy desenfadada y loca.
Si mis ilustraciones cobraran vida serían una especie de Poppy; un personaje que no le da miedo demostrarse ante la sociedad tal como es, con combinaciones de ropa muy divertidas y extremadas, y sobre todo con un estilo muy suyo y propio.
Son varias las fuentes donde me inspiro, la primera y la que más me gusta es de gente colorida que veo en la calle y llaman mi atención y resaltan entre medio de la gente que escoge negros, grises, y marrones para vestirse. Las otras fuentes de inspiración películas como ésta, revistas, blogs de moda y es un ejercicio que me hace ser más consciente cuales son las cosas que crean en mi esa chispita para crear!!!!!. Y cuando veo la peli Happy go Lucky me entran muchas ganas de ilustrar.

En noviembre 13 de 2008, soñé con un piso con 2 habitaciones, en el casco antiguo de Barcelona, y de construcción antigua, soñé que entré en el apartamento y me encantaba, pero cuando intentaba encender la luz no funcionaba, y aún así a medio oscuras me encantaba....Y en febrero 13 de 2009 a la 13:15 hrs. tenía una visita para ver un apartamento, en el casco antiguo, cuando lo vi sabía que era para mí, y la electricidad estaba dada de baja, y cada vez que entraba en una habitación me entraban las ganas de encender la luz pero como en mi sueño no se podía encender, y con una sensación de vivir algo que ya había vivido en mi sueño 3 meses antes. Y hoy ya tengo las llaves y el contrato firmado, y mi sueño tan bonito de un apartamento tan especial para mi, se ha hecho realidad. Celebramos una vez más antes de las Navidades Circuitismo Gotico 2008, después de muchas reuniones, de concretar presupuestos, puesta en escena, todo para una noche muy especial para cada uno de los locales que formamos este barrio de Ciutat Vella, una noche para compartirla con todos aquellos que les interesara la energía de este barrio tan particular y carismático. El barrio se convirtió en uno que parecía salido de un cuento, guiado por velas, luces, y alfombras rojas, exposiciones, proyecciones de video, grupos de música, y en Base Elements art performance de Zosen, más su nueva exposición de cuadros.

Si! con Bruna nos fuimos a las 10 a la feria creativa,.....no es lo que me esperaba pues lo encontré demasiado comercial, me faltaba un poco más de creatividad, pero bueno supongo que eso va a cargo de una........encontramos un montón de materiales para manualidades, técnicas muy interesantes, papeles estampados en los que se me iban los ojos, y el stand que más me gustó por su creatividad, y su oferta de productos muy originales y divertidos, fue Cromatismes una tienda en Torrent de l'Olla 153 en Gracia cromatismes.blogspot.com hace unos álbumes geniales.

Ayer soñé que visitaba un piso precioso para alquilar, de los que me gustan a mi, en el casco antiguo de Barcelona, con 2 habitaciones, y una terraza patio con vistas a los tejados antiguos de Barcelona,...y me sentía muy feliz pero cada vez que entraba en una nueva estancia y encendía la luz, la luz no funcionaba como si hubieran cortado la electricidad, y lo único que funcionaba era la televisión, la única luz que se proyectaba en la casa, pero en cada estancia que entraba seguía intentándolo, y nada!!, la luz no se encendía,....pero aún y así a oscuras el piso me gustaba mucho.....y ahora vuelta a la realidad, sigo soñando con un piso, de edificación antigua, con 2 habitaciones, salón y baño.

Hoy han venido el grupo de estudiantes de American School a que les diera una charla sobre mi experiencia como artista,....el mio ha sido un camino largo, y todavía me falta mucho por recorrer, también el hecho de vivir con Robert mi marido que también es artista, nuestra galería de arte donde siempre estamos en contacto con otros artistas, y vemos los diferentes estilos, puntos de vista, y vidas de otros artistas, ...otro tema que todos los artistas nos enfrentamos es la inspiración o lo qué nos inspira a hacer esto o aquello, y tal vez para mi son pequeñas cosas, vivir en la ciudad, la gente, la moda, algo que ves, algo que oyes, colores, vamos el ser una esponja, absorber de aquí y allá, y tener siempre los ojos abiertos.
Les he preguntado a las chicas si se quieren dedicar al arte y todas han coincidido en que quieren desarrollarlo como un hobby, y combinarlo con sus carreras,.......todos tenemos esta parte creativa, ya sea como un hobby o viviendo de ello, todos tenemos esta necesidad de expresarnos.

He pasado el fin de semana en Madrid. Fui a la Feria de Estampa Madrid que tradicionalmente se exponían pinturas, grabados y formatos impresos, y ahora hay más variedad, fotografia, nuevas tendencias,.....y para mi imaginación y mi creatividad fue muy estimulante.

Una de las artistas que más me llegó fue Eva Armisén (link) ojalá hubiera podido comprar uno de sus grabados. Tanto a Chris como a mi, nos encantó la dulzura de las pinturas, la sencillez con que están hechas, y como te llegan, con esos mensajes, que parecen que estén escritos por una niña, y que te llegan tan directos.

Con esta obra me reí mucho, pues vamos ni que pintada para mi, pues a veces me voy lejos (cada 3 años) !!!

...y es un no parar toda su obra tiene mensajes e ilustraciones tan sencillos, tan poéticos, tan del día a día que me llenaría la pared con su obra....Y lo que recojo de la obra de Eva Armisén es que hay que ser muy natural, sin pretensiones, muy tú mismo a la hora de crear, y si eres tal cual, seguro que transmites y llegas a tu público!!!!!

Hace unos días fui a BCN original, las tiendas de información turística de Barcelona. Y fue genial y mucho más fácil de lo que me había pensado, pues les mostré mi trabajo y ya me han hecho un pedido de imanes.

Esta semana ha sido tediosa, me ha tocado hacer la contabilidad del trimestre de la galería, y es algo que no me gusta nada hacer, ojalá tuviera dinero para pagarle a alguien para hacerlo.......Y encima se me ha juntado con la gripe, y llevo 3 días entre pañuelos, couldinas, y con las energías por el suelo.
He empezado a la carga otra vez a buscar más tiendas donde distribuir mis productos con mis ilustraciones, y es un tema que también no me gusta nada, el otro día hablando con una amiga de este tema le comentaba como me sería mucho más fácil vender algo de otro, que mi propia obra. Supongo que nos cuesta exponernos, recibir un "No" a algo que amamos.

Estoy ahora en el proceso de crear libretas, tazas, camisetas,.......Voy a empezar con las libretas, pues con el tema de las camisetas tengo la cabeza como un bombo, hoy he hablado con Franklin que se dedica a eso y tantas opciones, colores, tamaños, y yo que sé, y mi gripe, que estoy espesísima..
Esta ilustración se la dedico a mi amiga Lorena de un tema que me comentó sobre movimiento corporal, mientras comía arroz con yuca "tóxica" en un restaurante africano. Comer, lo que se dice comer no comió pero reirnos nos reimos un buen rato!!!

Cuca y Edith tienen su tienda tres puertas más abajo de nuestra galería. Baixada Viladecols nº 4. Una tienda muy femenina, con muchos detalles, y todo muy exclusivo hecho todo por ellas.
Este vestido me lo acabé adjudicando de Lia una de las diseñadoras que tienen en la tienda. Ropa y accesorios vintage con un toque muy femenino.
Edith tiene su rincón de peluquería, ha creado un ambiente muy acogedor y entrañable. El espejo pertenecía a su abuela, y no fue fácil traerlo desde Francia a Barcelona.

La máquina de coser de Edith que es una maravilla!!!!!, también heredada de su abuela. Y lo mejor de todo no está de decoración, pues también puedes entrar en la tienda y encontrarte a Edith cosiendo otra de sus pasiones.

Cuca hace collares, broches, anillos todo con un toque muy romático y rebelde a la vez. las imágenes están inspiradas en mujeres comoAudrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Frida Kahlo, Twiggy, etc,....que han destacado en áreas como el arte, la literatura, la música, el cine, la moda.

No todos los partos son iguales

Es curioso esto de ilustrar,....hay veces que las ilustraciones salen sólas, las haces en un momento, estás requeteinspirada,.......pero estos últimas ilustraciones han sido como un parto con forceps!!!! (y he pasado por un parto con forceps de verdad) Me siento que he superado algo muy importante, antes cuando notaba que la energía se me bloqueaba podía producir un efecto en mi en el que dejaba de ilustrar por un largo tiempo o tal cual lo dejaba, Y esta vez no he sucumbido,.....he seguido ilustrando no importa como quede la cuestión es crear.
Y pronto de la imprenta me van a enviar presupuesto para imprimir tazas, libretas, bolsas, camisetas....y bueno haré una muestra para enseñarlo a otras tiendas que estén interesados en venderlas. Y a ver que pasa,....tengo una tienda que vendieron en 20 días casi todos los imanes que les di, y ya me han hecho otro pedido grande!!!!....

Me acuerdo hace 5 años cuando llegamos a Barcelona y empezabamos nuestras vidas desde Zero,....era como un cuadro en blanco que no sabes que va a ser de tu vida. Queríamos abrir una galería de arte como en San Diego, y un día nos paramos delante de un mural hecho en la calle por diferentes grafiteros, y Robert dijo como le gustaría tener estos artistas en la galería. Comtemplamos ese mural por un rato soñando como nos gustaría que fuera nuestra galería, .........y hoy 5 años más tarde después de mucho trabajo y esfuerzo hemos logrado ese sueño. baseelements.blogspot

Tomorrow Saturday at Base Elements Kenor, Pez y Gola Show. Starting at 7:00pm.
Ya estamos con una nueva exposición y siempre me gusta ver los nuevos cuadros de los artistas. Con Kenor ya hemos hecho 2 exposiciones, y ahora nos ha traido a sus amigos Gola y Pez para exponer. A Pez lo conocíamos sólo a traves de sus graffitis en Barcelona, y son geniales, tienen ese punto divertido canalla, y es genial que ahora trendemos a los 3 en la galería........Robert ya está trabajando duro preparando la nueva exposición, moviendo cuadros "paqui" y "palla"......y luego me toca a mi, preparar la documentación de artistas, precios, bios y, actualizar la pagina web de la galería, el blog de la galería,....es un no parar.....por suerte en esta exposición nos van a echar una mano.

My friend Veronique and her friends commissioned me an illustration. It is from their friends Marion and Sam that are going back home in Australia and leaving Barcelona for good. It is my first commission and I feel very touched they asked me to do something special,.... my friend Holly made an illustration of Robert and me when we left San Diego to move back to Barcelona, and it was a great surprise and great gift!!,. It was so emotional and sad saying goodbye to my friends in California I think I cried for a whole day, good bye to 8 years in san Diego, and at the same time the excitement about a new beginning, new adventure, new friends,... and still I miss San Diego and my friends. I hope this illustration holds a piece of Barcelona for them, still I have to go to take a picture of the Born, they favorite neighbourhood and placed it as background. Still not finished!!!!

Saturday was a very crazy day,......we had an appointment at the gallery with a location scout that found our gallery and they liked our space very much! as one of the sets for a new movie of Uma Thurman is going to be in. ....A whole hollywood crew of 7 people, the director, creative director, set designer, you name it!!!!!!!!! started looking everywhere, ...it was a lot of fun.

.....after that we were very busy getting ready for the afternoon show, buying drinks, food, organizing, cleaning............we had a great time, a lot of people came by, and I got a very big surprise my sister showed up!!!! with her daughter Adriana........Yuri or PezkHamino our number one artist in the gallery had a performance, we all loved and enjoy his urban poetry!!!!!!!!.........

We are getting ready for tomorrow's new show and the rhythm is non stop, I have a knot in my stomach, and also I started a blog for the gallery that I hope Robert keeps the blogging http://baseelements.blogspot.com/,.......and Robert is changing everything in the gallery and is great to see the new paintings, and refresh everything. ....also Robert moved my work to another wall and it looks great,....I made the accounting yesterday and I hate doing it I wish I would have money to pay an accountant to go through all the papers and excel entry data.
Robert is being so supporting with my work, with my dreams, he gives me so much space to be who I want to be, never gets into my way or never makes judgements of my decisions,....and now that we have a son and I don't have as much time as I used to he helps me produce all the monix stuff,.....thank you Robert Love you so much.

I'm making these new series with type that I want to print them into t-shirts, so I have to search for a place that let's me print just a few to test it, ......I still want to work more on the type and the colors to make it pop out even more,................sometimes I get a little bit of vertigo to dedicate myself into this new adventure, because I've stopped working in graphic design, a career that for many years was my way to make money, a financial stability, and with my new direction in life sometimes I don't know where is taking me, because I don't have an assure future, because it all depends on me and it doesn't, but when I start thinking in this loop that doesn't take me anywhere, then......I stop, and keep going with my instinct and keep doing what I like, and keep going, because life is to be lived, to be explored, and to be enjoyed.

Yesterday I had to go buy a new sketch book,....I was going to illustrate and realized no more pages left,....I hope this new sketch book goes faster !!!!!!.........today I've been drawing but nothing came out, soooo bad!!!!! but I take it as part of the creative process. These 2 illustrations are from yesterday,.....I was so excited with my new book and inspired because of Sonar in the Macba (contemporary museum of Barcelona), there are lots of groovy people from all over Europe to this electronic concert, and my son's daycare is just there,...........I get more inspired of what I see in the streets than from magazines, and I have a good visual memory......so I'm going to exercise my sponge brain and get inspired!!!!

Robert is the best "trash hunter", 90% of the furniture in the gallery is found from the streets. When we lived in San Diego we used to go every weekend to the swap meet, and now we cruise the streets of Barcelona!!!!!!.

Here is Robert at the kitchen room in the gallery, all in this wall is found in the street, his favorite piece is the cross because is real iron, hand pounded, there is no welding, and he says is very, very, very old. Also the books that look great in the kitchen, marble molding shelve that belong to a church, and Robert rescued it. Then the restaurant in front of us got rid of the chalk board with the desert menu, it doesn't have any value but again we thought in the kitchen will look great.
Robert always wanted a Mona Lisa and he got it!!!!!!!!!, and also we have lot s of iron pieces like this, that are beautiful for decoration, and also this chest where I keep Dylan's toys,...one day I was on the bus and I saw 2 big travelling chests from the 60's in the street that would have been great for tables, and I almost jumped out of the bus,....but also would had been a big nightmare to carry those back to the gallery....and the beautiful sunflower lamp!!!!!!!
Robert found this painting yesterday, and I absolutely love it!!!!!! we have to restore it and we think is from the 1920's, it 's really damage but it's so worth to keep it, I hope one day we get a bigger apartment and put this painting in Dylan's room. Also along with this he got newspapers from the late 1920's and 30's when Barcelona was getting bombed during the civil war, and there is some news about Hitler, the italians, quite amazing, I'm so glad we don't live in a war like that..............Robert told me that it was crazy somebody empty a whole apartment in the street, and was quite hard to get anything. He found an antic vise for jewellery but this girl told Robert "It's MIIIIIINE!!!!!!" so he had to let it go, though he got also some very fine old tools for jewellery that the girl didn't see, JA, JA. You have to be fast and agressive!!!!!!! This is my sewing studio and I think it's all from the street but the green dresser and mirror that belongs to my grandparents, the white cabinet and the matching white table from the street, the chair from the street, the old sewing SINGER machine from an apartment that some british bought and they didn't care about all the stuff inside so they invited us and another neighbors to empty the apartment, and Robert got this for me, he also got glass ware, and I regret not have taking the bed linens, and the funniest one 2 paintings from what it was the old owners that passed away, and we have them hang in one of the kitchen walls in the gallery and people think are my grandparents............Also we have an old sign from the 1920's from a butcher shop "Ternera 27", and one day the grand-daughter walk in the gallery and recognized the sign from her grandfather's shop, but she told us her father dump it on the street and she was happy we keep it, she didn't care about having it either......also I love the painting frame Robert found for me, we painted and I put my first illustration somebody wanted to buy but it but has a sentimental value, more like a lucky charm, so No for Sale.And more furniture from the street, white lamp from the 70's, the white dresser, and the chandelier!!!!!!!!....... I was walking Peggy and I saw this man with the chandelier in his hands and I was so fast!!!!! before he would let it go in the street and break it, I was not shy at all and asked him if he was going to trash it and said yes!!!!!!,........literally I took it from his hands!!!!!!!And some architectural finds, this big stone Robert thinks is from the Roman period for the size and the way is cut. There were these workers digging a trench in the street and they pulled this big stone, and Robert asked if he could take it!!! I'm sure the working guys thought he was crazy, because it's a heavy stone!!!! buy hey! .....and we have beautiful tiles, and is an endless list of all the amazing things that Robert has found!!!........Hand made iron locks 200 years old, chairs, furniture, artist supplies, old iron pieces, lamps, old paintings, mirrors.

Le Petit Salon

I moved my studio down to the gallery and I like it much better so I have a big view to the street though that means more interruptions from people who comes in. We have rented my studio to a hair stylist Veronique, I was sad to give away my studio it has been 4 years working there, but when I met her I knew it was perfect for her!!!!!!! and my sadness went bye! bye! She is really vibrant person and her salon has the perfect name for it "Le Petit Salon", I've been helping her with the graphic image and I run into a picture that brought me the concept for the salon identity. Nick (www.splat-photo.com) took the pictures and it was a lot of fun!!!!! and also he did all the photo montage.......and the graphics is on me, the design of the flyers has a simillarity to Toni and Guy London since Veronique is trained and work for them and her salon is full on those products, so we thought it would be great to have that link to their image, young, rebel, and vibrant.

Today has been my first day to go back to illustrate, it took me a while to warm up and get my hands on,.....and when I got my sketch book I got shoCKED the last illustration it is from October 25 th 2007 I had to count with my fingers nov, dec, jan, feb, march, apr,. may ,.....and JUne,......6 months non illustrating!!!!!!!!! that can not happen again!!!!!!!!, even if I sketch a crappy thing I have to do it every day!!!!!!! 6 months,.......my problem is that if I sew I don't have mind to illustrate, and I have to be able to do both at the same time.......so my mantra oooommmm!!!!!!, illustrate and sewing..............

Sewing dream

My last day of sewing class, and I feel so proud of all the things I learnt, and I realized it's just a matter to do it, so many years wanted to get into sewing and I don't know what kept me from following my dream, to do something I really like it.........I guess it all came when I told my father I wanted to get into fashion-school, and he said NO, you have to go to a university career, and it took a long time for my brain to click again and say YES!!!!!!! I'm going to do what I really like.
When I started my class I got bummed because I thought there were too many old ladies, and I realized with time going to these classes, they were women with strong wish to learn to do beautiful things and that is what it really matters. It has been an amazing experience.
This is my weekend bag I couldn't imagine I could sew something like this.

And this is my little gem it was a delicate project to sew. I wanted to work with this delicate fabric, and it was easier than I thought, I hand-stitched the black fabric to the blue so it wouldn't move, and I embroidery the flowers with black bits, and to add something cute to the purse I made the pendant and I don't have a strong thing for making jewelry but I like to know how to put things together . Now I'm just waiting somebody to invite me to a wedding to wear my cute little purse.

I made 3 belts. I made a black leather belt an these 2 all with fabric they are all made with just glue, no sewing machine at all. It is pretty easy the hardest thing was to cover the buckle with fabric, my fingers ended up full of glue.

I love doing the crochet flowers once you start you can not stop. I hope I remember again how to do all the stitches!!!!!!! I'm always afraid I'll forget.
This was my first project, my bag to keep my sewing stuff, and I love the black tassel strip it's so spanish I love it!!!!! I got tones of those in different colors that I want to apply in pillows and others.
Now that I learned all those things, I just hope I don't drop it, that I always find the time to make sewing projects, I don't know what it will come up from all this, if it's going to be just a hobby, or I'll be able to come up with something I can sell from the gallery, what ever it is I just enjoy sewing so much...........Life has brought me the opportunity to have everything I need to be creative and the freedom to be myself.

I love the tarot world, it really fascinates me, when I see the cards I get totally hypnotized by the context of the cards, illustrations and meanings.........and my friend invited me to her house for a tarot reading. This tarot reading in particular is only made with the 22 major arcana cards, for personality reading more than adivinatory meanings. To choose 5 cards. One card for the main personality, 2nd for the positive side to be enhanced, another for the negative side, and the 4th for the present circumstances, and the last and more important the subconscious. My subconscious card is The EMPRESS. I have to meditate on this card to see what it can bring me and make my subconscious to arise, and bring up my own empress!!!!!!!!!
The Empress personifies the inexhaustible power of nature, with which she continues to bring forth new life. She therefore represents liveliness, fertility, growth, and the birth of something new. She is the infinite source of all life, which expresses our creative potential and our ability to absorb impulses and let something new arise through them. This means growth and fertility on the physical level, artistic creativity on the psychological level, imagination and ingenuity on the level of the intellect, and an increase in perception on the level of consciousness. The continual birth of the new means the constant transformation of our life, as well as the necessity to bear the pain of these births.

Robert is back after 3 months in San Diego, CA., I've been missing him so much!!!!!, .......and it has been hard for me to run the gallery by myself, I'm not a good art gallerist at all! the gallery is not an easy business to run, it's so hard to sell art!!!..... but now that Robert is back the gallery looks back alive!!!! and everything it's much easier or lighter on me........, and it feels great to have time for me again, I spent the whole weekend reading my favorite blog the moldy doilly, she is like a dream, inspires me so much, and love her energy and everything she does, her world, her free spirit!!!! ,......also this weekend I made my first hat!!!!!, I didn't went to my sewing classes in the last 3 weeks, so I had to catch up and I finished the hat because we are starting making the weekend bag, that I already bought the fabrics!and they are very colorful!!....I enjoy so much sewing and I waited sooooooo loooong to finally start living my dream, and finally things are happenning!!!!! and I guess is never too late to make your dream come true, now that I'm 37 years old I feel I'm starting to be who I want to be..........and also thanks to Robert that supports me 100% in everything I do.

RAIN IN SPAIN

It has been raining for the last 2 weeks on and off, and the plants in the patio of the gallery look so happy, I got an ivy plant I found on the trash and is doing so well,....all our patio is from what Robert has found on the streets, clay pots, plants, floor tiles, arquitecture elements that people throw away,......and Robert is in the rescue of all those beautiful things, last week we found a "saco" full of those tiles but they were all broken in small pieces, it is so sad because all these apartments that had these beautiful mosaic morish tiles are disappearing, and Barcelona people don't appreciate it and think they are ugly and old and replaced them for hardwood floors or plain tiles.

My first Client Vonblum

I'm so happy, today I have my first client Vonblum that bought a series of magnets to sell in their café, I want to go next week to try one of those delicious sandwitches by Barbara and to see with my eyes the great work Jessica has done with the café www.vonblum.com & blog.
I'm very encouraged to go and distribute my products in other stores, I'm a little bit lazy about it, but it has to be done!!!!.....from the gallery I realized my market is bigger than I thought, always thought my illustrations would be towards teenagers and female and I was so wrong, I have so many men that had liked my illustrations and bought mousepads, magnets or paintings. And it's good to know who buys your products, it gives me even more freedom to create with no judgments of who is going to like it, because I know now is pretty wide range of people that like it!!!!!!.

My studio & the gallery

My studio is upstairs in the gallery where I have a great view of the gallery and the street. In my studio I have 2 long tables one for my computer and design work and the other table for all the sewing and crafts, and I need a better shelving system to put all the bits and rest of stuff. Downstairs is my husband's space where he works the gallery and also has a workshop. The neighbourhood is great because there are lot of young people doing their crafts and art, great to be inspired and be creative.

I'm in my last panel, I can not believe it, it has been a year since I rolled this patchwork class,.........and didn't know anything about sewing, ZERO!!!!!!,.......and makes me so happy to see how much I learnt, and what a big project I was able to do!!!!!!!
